That's what really sucks - eventually everything will even out (despite what Glen Beck's guests were saying, I am confident things will get better), but all the normal people out there who are going to have to deal with the fallout of this crap. Like Jenny said, it'll be harder to go to school (something I dealt with last recession in '01), it will be harder for us to refi our house if we want - a lot of things that we took for granted or planned on are simply on indefinite hold.

Actually, the one thing a guest mentioned is that while student loans will be harder to get, tuition will probably drop (drastically, maybe). That is the one "positive" mentioned as I watched.

I AM!!! There is a range close to my house, or we can drive around the mountain towards Stansbury/Tooele and there is a place where we can just shoot whatever for free. I've actually been trying to plan a trip out there with a buddy soon. I'll try and let you guys know when I go. For sure do! I'll be teh newb with a gun in my hands so watch out. Bolded/underlined part was one of the first things came to mind when I read over what the bailout would do. Why not address what is affecting the people first instead of going straight for wallstreet? Will it happen? Who knows. We shall see on Thursday.

uhm.. yeah. this can seriously NOT get that ugly. 7% drop (back up today already) doesn't even hit the top ten drops in the modern market. We're still not even in a recession. And if one comes (likely) bring it on. It will be better for the few who have lived within their means.
p00ps bottom line: It should be Bankruptcy, not bailout for the banks in question. Accountability is hard, but i say let the market be that who teaches accountability, not the damn government.

fear will keep the local systems in line, fear of this BATTLESTATION! lol But on a serious note, fear is what is making this 'financial crisis' worse than it should be.

So I keep hearing about glen beck. I looked him up and he looks like a young Rush Limbaugh.
My question is what qualifications does he have that would make me care what his opinion is? And I don't mean that in an insulting way at all. Based on the puff piece on his website I'm currently rating his as an entertainer (same ranking I give almost all "news reporters"). Am I wrong in this ranking? Does he bring some qualification to the table that I am unaware of?
edit for spelling, wow

So I keep hearing about glen beck. I looked him up and he looks like a young rush limbuagh. My question is what qualifications does he have that would make me care what his opinion is? And I don't mean that in an insulting way at all. Based on the puff peice on his website I'm currently ranting his as an entertainer (same ranking I give almost all "news reporters"). Am I wrong in this ranking? Does he bring some qualification to the table that I am unaware of? Some people may disagree with me on this, but I think Glenn Beck does not take himself as seriously (as... as seriously) as say, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or 'Papa Bear' Bill O'Reilly. He is also, in my opinion, more open minded. He has had Al Sharpton on the show and they didn't yell at each other - he let Al say his piece (peace?) without interrupting him, and I think Al was the only guest, he was on the entire show. He's also a Mormon, and a convert no less. So, for me at least, the fact that he has lived his life (drank, did drugs, yadda yadda) and then as an adult came to the conclusion that 'Hooked on Mormons Works for Me!' is validating. However, he doesn't have any more or less political experience than any of the other blowhards out there, be they liberal or conservative, with the exception of MSNBC's Joe Scarborough, who at least served a few terms as a Senator. So you are correct, in my mind Beck is more of an entertainer than anything else. But, as far as what he has to say, I generally agree with him more than I do with any other conservative pundits.

So well put, Jack. I first listened to him on accident. Now I listen to him on purpose. Yes, the fact that he shares my religious views is one huge reason I like to listen to him. He is not a typical "Utah Mormon" and has lived a hard life, as mentioned before. He is an entertainer, but he also thinks outside the box and brings some new ideas to the table.

I've been wondering aloud on these forums about the U.S. losing its place as the richest, most powerful nation on the planet. This article (apparently from Germany) thinks that has already taken place (WARNING: 'TLDR' is an understatement for this article. It's, like, 5 pages long!): www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,581502,00.html# At least the first part of the article focuses a lot on how there is a crisis in the U.S., but Bush is not strong enough of a leader (or too unpopular) to unite anyone or anything to get stuff done. That said, I hold out hope that a lot of the points this author makes can be attributed to a Lame Duck President with the worst administration in (at least) my lifetime, and that the nation and the presidency can recover after he leaves.

Marji asked me this weekend if I could name a worse leader than Bush jr from my life time.
I came up with Idi Amin Dada. But that's all I could come up with.
