Marji asked me this weekend if I could name a worse leader than Bush jr from my life time. I came up with Idi Amin Dada. But that's all I could come up with. The greater challenge is naming a good leader from your life time. Honestly I don't think there has ever been a good american president, or good leader of any country, they all look great in the history books or in films, but if you lived during their rule im guessing it was a completely different story. Lincoln was awesome right? Then why did Lee (A good friend and ally) leave him to lead the oppositions military? Lee didn't even care about slavery. An entire half of the country was willing to kill in opposition of Lincoln's leadership.... but it was awesome right? he stood for what was right and yea he was an amazing leader right? He is now.. but put yourself in the country at that time, i would bet everyone hated him after watching so many of their sons, fathers, and brothers die. Its really really easy to sway the feelings of a group of people, regardless of principle or reason, just pull on their heart strings. The south shall rise again brother!

The south shall rise again brother! /agree... sort of I think of JFK when you talk about this concept: Was he a good president? Probably. Did he care about poor people, oppressed people, people who at that time could not help themselves? As far as I can tell. Was he a rich brat whose dad bought the election through mob ties? Yup. Was he a philanderer, cheating on his wife repeatedly - even in the White House? Most definitely. Much like Kurt Cobain, we love Kennedy as much for the unfulfilled promise of his life as for what he actually did. I think life was pretty good for everyone overall in the U.S. during the Clinton years - but how much of that can actually be attributed to Clinton himself? Not much. In my opinion, he was the lucky recipient of normal market cycles. Some argue that he was receiving the positive after-effects of Reagan and Bush Sr. policy. Whatever the reasons for the 90s being so plush, Clinton was certainly not at the top of the list of actual causes. Not that that will stop him or his wife or any myriad of Democrats from claiming as much.

As I recall from my US History class in high school (granted this is many years ago), the actual result of any major action economically taken by a President isn't really seen for, I think, like 6 years. Often what one President does is not noticeable until the next term, and if he is lucky, he is in office at that time. Otherwise, the White House has changed hands (and parties), and the next guy gets credit/blame and either gets the boot or re-elected. I think this administration is the perfect example of that, although I don't have enough political "know" to point out specific things. Anyway, that's my $.02.

So I just heard that the effing Bailout was passed and W signed it. I will make a deliberate effort to vote against any of my personal representatives that helped to pass that piece of crap.

It's crap.
I'd love for them to prove me wrong, but I don't have high hopes of that happening.

JFK almost started WW3. And I don't have time to even begin to list the issues Clinton had.
I think Reagan was the best president of our time. But our national debt skyrocketed during his terms.
And now to gas prices.
At the peak of gas prices, 4.25 a gallon, oil was 140 a barrel. Now that oil is 90 a barrel and still dropping gas is still 3.40. So Oil is 65% of the cost it was, but gas is 80% of it's peak price. WTF? Make the f'n oil companies bail out wall street.
