Work's pwning teh poop lately. I've missed out on some good forum fun. I didn't even get a chance to see any forum spam!
healthcare: On this one, i lean more liberal. I think that ideally, healthcare should be a basic right. However, the logistics suck. Healthcare is a perfect justifiable reason for government subsidies. Those that dont have jobs that subsidise healthcare, the government should play the roll of the employer. Government incentives should be put in place that encourage employer sponsored healthcare.. ..
And Insurance companies should bare MUCH, MUCH more responsibility to those who pay for their protection.

Fair trade imo, cheaper than euthanasia. I think ill wave coverage this year, 600 more bucks per pay check ftw.

I agree with poop. Basic healthcare should be a right.
The government already subsidizes healthcare for the part of the population who requires the most health care: the elderly. The government really sets the prices for healthcare. CMS says how much they will reimburse for care and under what conditions, and that is what hospitals and doctors have to charge, otherwise they aren't eligible for reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid.

Those of us with excellent health coverage aren't really that much better off than those without it. Insurance companies don't want to pay for preventative medicine, it's all reactionary.
The last time I was sick cost me almost 300 dollars (and I have excellent coverage). And my primary care Phys. can't honestly tell me I was better off than riding it out. Just poorer.
Almost all healthcare money is spent on end of life care. I don't see the point in tacking on 2 years to the end of my life when I'm not enjoying it anyway. So really not being covered and dieing at home with the people who love you while you can still pick them out of a line up of one... is that so bad?
All that said, in a perfect world I think preventative medicine should be available to everyone. I just don't think our government can actually make that happen, so I can't support throwing more tax dollars away on this kind of thing.
signed the Warlock for a smaller government.

Healthcare is an issue that has me torn. I do think in a perfect world healthcare should be made available to everyone. The experience I have in both the patient care and hospital billing areas provide me with a unique perspective. I honestly think that the system is flawed beyond repair. Medicine really shouldn't be a capitalist business, but government is raping our hospitals and physicians. Medicare and Medicaid are a bit of a joke. The real people in need of these programs are too broke to even use the benefits they have. On the other hand, people that manipulate the system on their behalf go to the doctor/hospital for every effing sniffle. A TON of patients are too hugging lazy to actual get a primary care provider, so they bring their kids to the ER for a cold, ear infection, low grade fever. This costs us as tax payers and as the "lucky few" with insurance. Did you know that Medicare patients have a 90-day rolling copay of about $1K? So if grandma Sally is in and out of the hospital every few months, she will have to pay $1K out of pocket with each hospital admit. So she is probably going to wait to see her doctor, then be too sick to just go home, and gets to be admitted for a week or so AGAIN and AGAIN, and when Medicare gets the bill, their contract rate of repayment is MAYBE 20% of the bill. People are living longer, and not necessarily better. The government sponsored healthcare should focus much more on children than on the elderly, IMO. There should be very logical requirements, like the ER is for EMERGENCIES, and the like. I could really end up going on all day, so I will step down. I think the gov't would eff up any kind of universal healthcare and make all us employed peeps broke as a joke in the process. On that note, I guess I'm voting red. maybe. Or Ron Paul ftw!

"The Dow closed the day down 777.68 points, or 6.89 percent, beating its previous record set on the first trading day after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks. Still, in percentage terms, the decline remained well below the more than 20 percent drops seen on Black Monday of October 1987 and at the beginning of the Depression."
It's a good time to buy, methinks.
The House refusing the bailout will will make this meltdown much worse. Does that mean they should have put $700 billion of taxpayers' dollars into the market? Not necessarily. It's a slippery slope once you start putting our money where their mouth is.
However bad this downturn/recession will be, we will pull out of it and we'll go from bust back to boom. And within a few years people will be cavalier and stupid again, just like they were in the housing market when they should have known better considering the dot-com bubble had just burst.
Absolutely there is real danger of losing money in the market, but people thinking short term, freaking out and selling everything is what makes the market lose 777 points in 1 day. This volatility is what you buy into when you buy securities, and it is this volatility that makes it profitable.
Get ready for a boatload of government regulation of financial markets in the next 5 years.

-778 close out. That makes me feel sick. While I thought the bill left out a lot that should have been addressed, I would like to believe it could have got the ball rolling towards doing some sort of good. (and not just a temporary fix) Who's up for a F69 day at the shooting range?

Who's up for a F69 day at the shooting range? I AM!!! There is a range close to my house, or we can drive around the mountain towards Stansbury/Tooele and there is a place where we can just shoot whatever for free. I've actually been trying to plan a trip out there with a buddy soon. I'll try and let you guys know when I go.

I am currently watching Glenn Beck, and it makes me a little sick to hear what the guests on his show predict for our government/economy. I don't want to be a doomsdayer or w/e, but holy hannah, this could get seriously ugly. Sorry to say, I don't think we will be buying a new car (FJ) any time soon. That is, until I promote to manager! My goal is to get out of debt and not have to worry about all this credit stuff. If I had no money owed anywhere, I wouldn't really care all that much.

I watched him for a bit too and got sick of what they were saying. I feel the same way too if we were out of debt.
I hate more than anything how this affects getting student loans. Yet another thing to add to the list that holds people back from continuing their education. /facepalm
