So I was at GEEX all day (which was awesome) and had to wait until tonight to get caught up on all the Apple news. So I'll put a few thoughts here but I really should create a blog.
1. I think Apple did more then I thought they would with the free bumper. I think the bumper is just to appease those that absolutely feel they need it. I was waiting to get one to stop the phone from sliding around so much so this is a plus for me as well.
2. The numbers they showed proved what I've been thinking all along, that this weakest of the iphone is not even close to affecting the large majority of iphone users and it's unfortunate that it has become this huge story. That is mainly Apple's fault for their poor PR job.
3. I still think CR has it all wrong. Yes they (and everyone else) can duplicate the bars dropping by placing your finger over the black line but is the consumer actually running into a problem using the phone? Data shows they are not. It's like saying you can fall in this one corner in Dalaran and get stuck so therefore we cannot recommend they you play the game, however, it is the best game we have ever seen. Makes no sense to me. Exploiting a weakness is not going to ruin your gaming experience.
So we'll see if this press conference can reign in the story.

CR said give people a free case, apple is giving people a free case. CR wins.

But will CR now "recommend" the iPhone 4?

They said they won't so we'll see. It was pointed out that they do recommend all other smartphones with the same parlor trick the iPhone 4 has so I'm sure when CR has milked all they are going to get from this link bait they 'might' recommend it.

WTFever. The turtle neck claims that only .55% of users complained of dropped calls. And then turns around says that other people have it worse like some kind of whining school yard sissy. HTC responds that the Eris has only a .016 complaint rate. That's what 33-34 times lower than the iphoney? www.pocket-lint.com/news/34374/htc-droid-eris-antenna-complaints

Makes no sense to me. Exploiting a weakness is not going to ruin your gaming experience. Total fail analogy. The iphone problem isn't some far off unused corner of dalaran. It's affecting people making calls, you know on a phone. Weird that someone might take that seriously I know... To stick with your Dalaran theme this would be more like there is a hole you can fall in at the entry to the flight landing pad. You have to pass this pretty much every time you play. Maybe it's well known and for most people they can simply avoid it. But it's something that could affect you and piss you off (if even only for a few seconds) every time you log in.

Also: What data? The turtle neck was very vague about what the fruit knew about this issue really. The only hard number is that less than a percent of users complained. Well as overblown as this issue is on the every where how many people do you think didn't even bother to call? So it's an unclear and ultimatly meaningless stat*. There is no "data" that they shared with you. Don't get duped into thinking that what was said Friday was anything other than misdirection. *So is the HTC rebuttal but they are fighting stupid with stupid. Sorry I haven't had time to come flame for a few days so it all built up. On this I think we agree.

I still think I can sell the Fruit better than the Fruity Ones:
"We made a booboo so don't touch this spot here *points to tiny gap on phone*. If you do, there is a possibility that you could drop a call. Similar things happen to a lot of phones, we just made it a tad easier with this design (which we still think is sexy and you do too). So use a case if you find this happening or a small piece of scotch tape or a bandaid or just watch how you hold it.
Our bad, we know, sorry about that. Here's a free case. We still have the best phone on the market and you know you want one. So quit your crying and go have fun with our phone!
PS: QQ Gizmodo"

Giz has become the Fox News of iPhone hate. Not even I can take anything they publish without a large amount of salt. It may be in part that it's personal for Giz. It's not like the Obama administration invaded Bill O'Reilly's house...

One week since the press conference and the stories and complaints about the antenna are growing louder and louder. . . Ok CR, you ready to recommend the best smartphone?

Giz has become the Fox News of iPhone hate. I think Jason Chen might have an idea about why Giz hates the fruit.

It's not like the Obama administration invaded Bill O'Reilly's house... It was kind of an off the wall reference, but I'm proud of it.
