So it's almost a week away. I'm pretty excited for what this year's CES will bring.
Sandy Bridge? We've chatted quite a bit about this on skype. It's a very nice leap in CPU design and performance. Every single tech blog that I've read is very excited about it.
But more than anything, I'm excited to see what kind of REAL tablets come out of it this year. A tablet, as in a tablet PC. REAL, as in I could buy them not just look at them on the interwebs.
I remember last year Asus teased the E121.. man that tablet looked great. Of course, who's seen it? Nobody. This is what was teased last year at computex:
They're teasing it again.. and including an i5 for processor (SB!??). This is looking VERY interesting, indeed. A true tablet, not an ipad wannabe. A real PC tablet. I'm holding my breath (and saving my monies):

I'm pretty meh about tablets, but I'm excited for SB! Not having my gaming PC is torture! Speaking of torture, I'm going to go watch 24 Season 5 now.

Very cool. I can't wait to see the toys that will be coming out. I'll be curious to see if this tablet's features can better do what I have bought my iPad for.

I am actually looking for a tablet that doesn't do what the iPad does. .. The iPad is a great device, don't get me wrong. But I want a tablet that has PC characteristics, not those of a phone.

I want to get excited for this stuff I really do. But CES is marketing crap and vaporware. What maybe 10% of what they should you will ever get made?
Getting details on SB is great, we know they are making that. V will annouce it's LTE android phones, awesome. Finding out that the eeepc tablet isn't all we'd hoped for, sad but hey at least we know more about a product that will be made.
Some no name vendor is going to tell us about a product they might make if enough bloggers are interested enough for an angel to get on board and pay for the needed dev time and maybe if that all works out they might release a product in 2013. Who gives a crap?

FYI in case anyone was wondering, NewEgg still doesn't have any SB mobo's listed on their site. le sigh. I did find this good article comparing mobo's at Tech Report. I think I'm going with their pick, the Asus P8P67 PRO.

Edit: Are you still thinking of 12gb ram? My toying around in shopping carts, i'm sticking with 8gb. i can't see any valid reason to spend extra for more.

I'll have to say I was disappointed by this year's offering. Its true that most stuff is vaporware but CES should be a metric of where the tech world is headed and I don't see a bright future.
