Hey guys, my folks just got home from their Mish and need phones. It can't be ATT because it has crappy service in Richfield.
So the iPhone is out. But Sprint has the Hero, which could be cool. Do you think the android OS is intuitive enough for old fogies? Or should I stick with a dumb phone?

I'm confident they would like Android (methinks HTC's Sense UI improves the experience, too, which is what you get with the Hero, Incredible & Evo), but the real test is to have them go to the store and putter around with it for a few minutes. Nikki's much less patient with technology than me, and she got to really like the Droid Incredible in a matter of minutes.
Sprint has the delicious Evo coming June 4th as well, which has me all perplexed when thinking about which carrier to go with. I thought the Droid Incredible was "the one" for a minute there.

Will they use a smart phone? I know my mom is capable of using my droid. But even being the information junky she is she wouldn't put it to much use. So it's just be a heavier and more expensive cell phone. So I guess that's the first and most important question. Will they actually get enough out of it for the additional cost.
And after that how much support will they need from you? I wouldn't want to have to be phone support for an andoird phone if I didn't own one. It's not that it's a hard phone to use. But is it worth it to you to have to keep up on all the latest of a phone os you don't use yourself?

Good questions Math.. That's where we stopped, we couldn't justify a true smartphone for the cost of the phone and the data plan. I'd love to have them on a smartphone just to be able to easily manage contacts via the cloud, but the end cost isn't justifiable.
I ended up picking the verizon enV Touch since my mom wants to start txting and they were on a buy1 get1 deal.
