So I use Hulu.com. I'll watch shows I could otherwise download in HD there out of shear ease of use. I've turned off any adblock software there because they do ad's in an reasonable way as far as I'm concerned. However with news that they are going to a subscription service they have missed the point entirely. I can get the content for free. I can get it in higher quality. I can get it without any ad's at all. Why would I pay them? I had really thought that maybe one media giant had figured out how to make "free" a good business model. But turns out they haven't. Idiots.

It's just like iphone apps. The masses will look at it and say "it's just a buck" (or two or three). Very disappointed to hear this, as the few times I have used Hulu, I was stoked. No more Hulu here. /kick

I'm sure they can do it right. I love Netflix. I get my choice of two DVD's and all their streaming content(which is a ton) for the price of a WoW account. My guess is you pay if you don't want ad's or if you want extra content like older shows. And some developer put some hard work into that iphone app. Give him his buck

Netflix knows how to compete with free. Their streaming content is free, a bonus to your physical media. And you can get it on any mac or pc you're at, your xbox, their sling box thing and if your willing to put in a little pretty much anything with a screen.
I just wish they would get that you can't continue to charge for an infinite good. You can sell the eye's that watch your media, or the comfort and security that comes with a hard copy, but the media itself have no value. You can't charge for air (yet) because it's effectively infinite. Jake has plants in his cube exchanging CO2 for O2, but he can't really charge for that can he? But if the air quality was noticeably better in his cube he could monetize his guest seat for people who want to take a break near his fresh air producing plants.

Yeah, I dont really mind the thought of it all that much. So long as it's reasonable anyway.
I think if they would offer a low (really low, like a buck or two a month) price, and allow live streaming.. they could potentially change the TV game for real. Albeit's only one channel, but in the end, the thought of ditching paying for cable TV to get content in and/or post real time is AWESOME!
No need for DVR, no need to pay for cable or whatever.. Just a few bucks and BANDWIDTH.
Well, that'd be my perfect TV world anyway.
