So I'm one of the last to think about jumping on this bandwagon. I'm seriously considering buying a HDTV this black Friday. I think I want a 42inch. I'll want to hook up a couple of devices and get OTA channels. Those of you who are in the know please share your advice.

Although I still think I'm hilarious, after I posted that it occurred to me that room size plays an important factor in TV selection, and I agree that 42-ish is right for your home. 50 would be overkill in your house as much as it would in mine.

I've considered moving the entertainment system to the basement. The room we played axis and allies in would be big enough for a 50. But it's still overkill for the amount of TV I watch.

If you already have cable the tuner will pick up most of the same ones Over the Air has. It could be different there.
HD formats start at 480I and goes up to 1080P, From what I see here in oregon most HD over the air and basic cable HD channels are broadcast in 480i some are 720p only one is 1080I (PBS). We had to upgrade our cable to get 1080i.

No cable here, I am anti cable. I want 1080p for the movies I get from the darknets. Plus I may get a bluray at some point too and change netflix over to that format.

With the price cut of the PS3 I'm thinking about buying it as my BluRay solution and putting off the previously planned Wii or 360 purchase. Any thoughts?

I was really thinking about getting a PS3 too for the BluRay. To be honest though, I'm very impressed with the quality of the upscaling on regular DVD's. Since I have a crapton of regular DVD's and don't want to start a BluRay collection I'm happy to be content with upscaled DVD's. The reason I originally wanted a PS3 was for the BluRay. If I was going to spend any money on a BluRay player I figured why not spend a bit more and get a gaming system with it. With the advent of The Beatles Rock Band having exclusive stuff on Xbox 360 and Owneress really really wanting that game, I think the odds of me getting a 360 is much greater. Also, Jack and Titahn have 360's too, so it increases the odds we could play something online together. Also, the Netflix thing is a big sell for the 360. So that's my input.

I think the PS3 is the best choice there. It is one of the best blu-ray players on the market. (Both picture quality and support)
Netflix is by far the best choice to go if you have a Blu-ray player. BD's are so pricey, and really, when are you going to re-watch that movie when you can just get it again whenever you want within a day or two.
I have no idea on the games as I don't play console games.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the 360 does do upconverting really well. So that is just built in.

A little something to make me feel better about my ever dwindling chances at a new TV this year.
