So, to clarify: I have NEVER said that apps are not important. (really, when and why on earth would I say that!?)
They are part the equation, but only a part. A consumer looks at many reasons to buy a certain kind of phone. That was the whole point to this thread; That Apps are not the only reason to buy (as was stated by Remy). Hardware, OS and apps and price and color and a myriad of other reasons are why people buy what they buy.
BTW, a smaller iphone is pretty backwards thinking. It's a smart phone! do you want to hold it inches from your face, just to read something on the web?
I predict now that the iPhone 5 will have a larger screen. Not a 4.3 inch, that's just huge (i love it though!), but it'll be bigger. A bigger screen sure is nice, say many, many a consumer.

For the record Remy stated that women tend to buy smaller phones and focus on the apps not the screen size but I'm always happy to start a discussion.

Ryan may argue that apps are not important yet he tells all the time that he is sick of feeling like a 'second class citizen' as a Android user. Excluding the part about apps are not important; I do feel like a second class net-izen! iPhone apps abound where very little android follow, it seems. It's the price you pay for a non-fruit device atm.

You know I hear all the time that the istore has eleventy billion apps to the gstores 9. But what functionality am I missing? I don't need more than the 30 fart apps that android has do I?
Netflix is the only thing I can think of that i has and g doesn't that I care about. And that's annoying but pretty minor over all.

Nothing big I don't think. "For now" companies build for iOS first and then Android. Ryan is just sad Android doesn't have the Favorite eats app which is used at the places we eat. Speaking of which, the best pizza can be found here. www.nicolitaliapizzeria.com/

To much to link from MLB saying iOS perform better for them in application and profit, to Android being too fragmented and hard to develop for, etc. For time I just do short points: 1. What is better is very relevant. People these days know what good software is more so then in the 80's. It is interesting to me to read the poor experiences about those who bought android for no other reason then it was a 'smartphone' 2. Apple and iFans I doubt are scared about this. They know what they like which is why they buy it and as long as Apple is making great products and profit we'll still get our awesome tech. 3. I'll quote John Gruber for now He is referring to this article which mocks that one platform argument better then I could pugjunk.com/is-android-taking-over/"That’s the question of the decade. Is mobile going to work out like the console market, with a handful of competing and roughly equal major platforms? Or is it going to work out like the PC, where a lower-cost inferior licensed OS grows to an overwhelmingly dominant monopoly position? (And, as Storm points out, Apple’s penalty for “losing” the PC war is that it is now the world’s most profitable PC maker.)"

"the world’s most profitable PC maker"
This is a lie. I don't know the profit figures but to word it that way makes it sound like they made all their money in PC's. They are a gadget maker who also happen to make PC's.

I looked at the article that had the phone size poll and noticed in the comments the author pointed out the data set mostly represented Male geeks but has noticed women prefer the smaller size/phone size. Also this quote from the article "Apple believes that 3.5” is the perfect screen size, and they’ve sold over 100 million iPhones with that screen size, so it’s hard to argue that they’re widely off the mark." Which was also my argument to why I don't believe we'll see a bigger phone in the iphone 5. It's just not a big selling point. We might have to wait till September though to see who owes who lunch

Why do you think this is a lie? Who would you say is the most profitable PC maker? Dell also makes phones, can they say that they are one of the most profitable phone manufacturers? Apple is not a PC company that happens to make phones any more. They are a gadget company that still makes PC's. You don't see this statement as misleading? This kind of thing is why I can't stand apple fan boi bloggers. Everything is misleading or just wrong. Your quote from mcgruber implies that the console market is a dead heat, completely wrong Nintendo destroyed MS and MS ate Sony's lunch. The winner of the pc os war in the 80's and 90's was inferior as a statement of fact. And then somehow implies that apple turned around that loss to MS and won the same fight becoming the most profitable pc maker by selling alot of mp3 players. I will agree with your second point. iFans will not be scared of anything. They are delusional and will never conceed anything to the competition. There is always an excuse to explain why Apple isn't really on the losing side of something.

I just think it will evolve just like the rest of the hardware has through the years. and yeah, this fall should be interesting to see how the iPhone5 evolves to compete. Granted, that poll is on a techie site that inevitably caters to more male techies. since inherently dudes seem to be a bit more into that than the fairer sex. (hence the larger screen size wanting)

No I don't and I'm not sure what you are saying? Do the numbers I posted include phones? It didn't say that. It does include ipads but so do Dell, Sony and HP numbers (tablets). So are you arguing that the numbers are false? That they are from Apple bloggers? Or do you just have a different definition of what a PC maker is. The ZDNET article made it clear why this is the case. Apple also sells the software. The others do not.
Apple is consider to be the most profitable PC maker by those who look at the numbers. It's not a lie or a fanboy thing. It is what it is.
