Direct to Drive and other download retailers didn't sell MW2 because of the Steam Only thing.
Man, I hate cheaters.
So if you aren't running a dedicated server then you can't ban the player? can you vote them off?

It think it's funny, it looks like a simple file replacement hack or mods to some game file settings. I am surprised they didn't build in a way to monitor that.

So if you aren't running a dedicated server then you can't ban the player? can you vote them off? I only played to level 3 in multiplayer (maybe 20-30 minutes) but yeah, I think they took out any vote_kick functionality, it's just not available. Friendly Fire is in Hardcore mode only and i guess TK'rs are punished by spawn time so if you have a griefer, they can't be kicked it will only penalize them in spawntime. I'm not sure how I feel about all of that, but I'm sure once I get in and experience it more I'll be able to form a proper opinion. .. it makes me nervous though. PS: There is a very slim chance that anyone will pay $20 for cheats where my guess is they will be easily snuffed out by IW and VAC.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to hack a ded. server for it. I guess we have our answer.

So after spending more time playing it this weekend than I should have, I decided that their new system for multi-play is just OK with some problems.
Like: 1) The fact that it sets up games fairly quickly (some games, that is). 2) So far, the matches have been pretty even (I know this because I stay on top of the scoreboard in most of them.. heheh) 3) Overall, the gameplay is maintained with a few exceptions. 4) Hardcore mode: The best part about this game, hands down and it still is awesome in this version. 5) Less douche bags: No admins kicking randomly because you pwned their face or used a noob-tube or shot someone with out looking through the sight of the gun. ..I haven't been suspicious of being in a game with a cheater yet (although, i've been called one.. but that is always taken as a compliment).
Do NOT like: 1) CRAPPY host connections. More than once in a game, you can tell the host connection is crapping out and everyone starts skipping around.. this REALLY sucks when you're going in for a knife kill just to come back from a glitch to find yourself dead because the noob you were going to pwn just emptied a clip into glitch-space.
2) Hosting makes your router feel like it's being DDOS'd. I had my network monitor up to see if I was a host of a match (nobody can tell if you're a host or not) and noticed that after I would host, I'd loose internet connection on the other PC's. I have to investigate this further, but my bet is it could be multicasting some and my dd-wrt router does not like that kind of crap. .. i had to reboot the router to get back on track. I blame the game, but like i said, i'm not sure.
3) Available games. There are a lot of new modes available to play and I found that the less popular ones will prolly remain so since someone has to actually sit and wait for players to join before playing. But maybe this can turn out to be a good thing. Many dedicated servers stick to just one map, just one gametype.. this at least will allow for people to play the less popular ones (if enough join to play in the first place).
4) Douche bags.. Yeah, they're still there, but they're not in power any more.

There was a dedicated server hack posted for the version of the full demo I have on the 13th. It launched when? This seems bad for IW. If they can't meet the demands of the community the community will find a way. And why pay if you're not getting any support? I still haven't installed it.

I believe he means since no one is "running the server" they can't enforce their own brand of cockery rules on the server.
But, if you still want to be a douche then you just leave the game and hope you are the host.

Im going to go out on a limb and say that this game is a fail. The single player is really only good for controversy, and is no more than an add on mission pack for cod4, not worth the price of a full game.
I miss the days of wolfenstien 3d, aliens vs predator 2, call of duty, half-life, quake 2, DOOM, etc. etc.
Bring back the challenging, epic story, fun filled, FIRST PERSON SHOOTER.

sadly.. after playing it much more; I have to agree.
I dont even care to finish the single player and the MP is still fun but the lag issues and it killing my router.. and my overall apathy with having to maintain myself on top of the boards is leading me away from it. <- (i'm allowing the game to piss me off when I suck.. and that's dumb)
I dig it still, I don't pine to play it. I'm the same way for LFD2.
Maybe Assasin's Creed 2 will make me want to finish a game again. #1 was and is still the only single player game I have ever finished without getting bored and ending early or cheating.

I didn't think Assassin's Creed 1 was all that good according to many reviews. I mean, it was decent, but had many short comings. Many of the reviews I've read or heard on podcasts echo'd exactly what I said when we saw the live demo at PAX a couple years ago.
I've also heard similar comments about MW2 from various sources. I still haven't tried it yet, but the drastic changes to the backend MP game and the bigger price are just enough to make me not care about this game so much.
However, I've been playing CoD4 again lately and have been loving it. Single and Multiplay. I think I'm only lvl 22 in MP and in Act 2 on SP. I really like that game and that alone is what has me interested in MW2, nothing I've heard about the actual game has really inspired me to try it, only the hope that it is more of the same original goodness.
Along with my rediscovery of CoD4 I've also installed America's Army. I haven't played that in years and never really got deep into it, but thought I'd check it out again. I've only gone in and done one training mode so far, but if I find time I hope to get in a little further.
Ever since I upgraded to Win7 it has sparked my interest in different games. I'm still playing a lot of WoW, but now that I put Steam on my big hdd I have been installing games left and right. I have Fallout3 and FarCry2 finally installed, but haven't tried them yet. After I finish CoD4 I want to replay some other games, like Portal, CnC3 and finish Kane's Wrath. I started WC3 a while back and have my save game still. I still have TF2 installed and jump in once in a while, the last time was during Halloween.
I'm a gamer. I like to play games. If anyone wants to jump in and play some TF2, L4D2, CoD4, or whatever you know where to find me.

Just bought L4D2 (got the 4 pack so Jake, Nicci and Dave have it too now). Once that's DL'd at home, and assuming my power stays on, I'll be up for that tonight or tomorrow.

I think the reason I enjoyed Assasin's Creed so much is the fact that it was pretty much a no brainer, almost a button masher. But it was a very pretty button masher that I played just to relax and I did enjoy it very much. (I didn't play it with keyboard and mouse though) using the xbox controller made it pretty dang fun.
It looks like we'll have to L4D2 it up soon!
